Abstract
An 18-year-old male patient presented to the surgical out-patient department with a history of a swelling of the right foot sole for one year, gradually increasing in size. On examination there was a 10x8x2cm growth over the right foot sole with multiple papillary projections throughout the surface of the growth and watery discharge. The inguinal lymph nodes were not palpable.
INVESTIGATION: Hb 11 g%, Tc 11000/cumm (N 65, L 35, B 0, M 0) ESR 40 mm/hour, chest x-ray: PROVISIONAL DIAGNOSIS: VERRUCOUS CARCINOMA or WARTY TUBERCULOSIS.
The wedge biopsy from the lesion was suggestive of cutaneous tuberculosis. Tuberculosis of sole of foot is a rare entity even in developing countries. Diagnosis of tuberculosis requires a high index of suspicion. All cases of tuberculosis usually respond very well to anti-tubercular treatment.
