Abstract
This book is the latest annual edition to a successful long running series. Aimed primarily at the generalist, it contains 13 review articles, all written by those with international expertise in their field. The scope of the articles is impressively broad minded, encompassing not only clinical conditions but also social and educational aspects of a paediatricians' work. Reviews included a guide for understanding Muslim culture and advice for staying up to date with professional development. Other particularly useful articles include the management of easy bruising and the management of diabetic ketoacidosis. However, not all the articles are of such clear benefit to the generalist and the article on mechanical aids to physiotherapy in CF is better suited for those with a respiratory interest.
The book also has a literature review of the year, which provides a useful means of organising personal reading.
This book is not essential reading, but for a busy paediatrician who finds they have little time for updating their knowledge, this book provides an excellent starting point.
