Abstract

As long as the study with the objective to know the life cycle of Gnathostoma spp. in various intermediate hosts have been occurred. Swamp eels (Fluta alba) had been also carried out and accepted to be an important intermediate host of Gnathostoma spp. in many authors hypothesis. Fortunately, the study with the swamp eels, which were obtained in Thailand, had been published in both local and international journals since 1990-2003. This is the first report to summarize the data of Gnathostoma spp. in Fluta alba study in Thailand. Our data reveals the morphology, intensity, and prevalence of Gnathostoma spp. in swamp eels from various areas in Thailand. Furthermore, this study also obtains the rainfall data which was never bring to analyze in previous studies, by our hypothesis the probability of rainfall variation maybe influencing to increasing rate of infection more than seasonal variation in human. However, this summarized data, which has not been obtained in this study, should be brought to compare to the incidence of Gnathostomiasis infection in human in endemic areas in Thailand, which will lead to program the measurement of control and limitation of infected rate in human.
