Abstract

As physician assistants diversify in the field of medicine, we find more PAs practicing as generalists and specialists in internal medicine. In addition, since the field of internal medicine touches all other medical and surgical specialties, all PAs must remain abreast with new information within the field of internal medicine. However, this task is often overwhelming.

Therefore, this section of “The Internet Journal of Academic Physician Assistants ” has been created for updating and analyzing common issues in the field of internal medicine. The contents of articles in this section will highlight both the common ground and differences between family practice and internal medicine as pertaining to the practicing PA. In addition, the appropriateness of particular diagnostic studies and treatment options will be discussed.
